Theresa Ketron Entrance Interview
Excerpt from Interview 718-B "Theresa Ketron AKA Sinew"
So Theresa, was it?
That's me! Some folks call me 'Sinew', which is fine too, but I'm not a big fan of Terri, though.
Sinew? That's an interesting nickname. How did you come about it?
One of my patients actually gave it to me. Back in the serengeti, one of the folks I was treating couldn't really pronounce my name. One of the other doctors there, who was doing a skin graft at the time, kept asking for a bowl for the clipped sinew. As fate would have it, my patient kept asking for my name at around the same time that the doctor was using the bowl, so he thought the doctor was answering, and that's kinda how I got the name.
That's a rather peculiar nickname, though?
It's peculiar in that it actually works. I'm a shapeshifter with several medical degrees, which together let me do things like treat severe injuries or donate blood using myself as a donor. Not the most glamourous ability, but for all that it's helped, I'd rather be able to do this then say, imitate famous musicians or something.
You did work in the Sarengeti?
Yes. There's an entire epidemic there essentially everyday. I worked with another medic, named Alanti... Alanti Mujaba! Great woman, dedicated. We didn't really have a lot of time to sit down and chat, though we did as much help as we could before I was called back home.
Interesting. This brings us to our next question: Why do you consider yourself a hero?
I'm a hero because I try to do the right thing. I try to help people who are hurt, regardless of whether or not their normal humans, metahumans, Anthro-Sapiens, or what-have-you. It's not about the glory, it's about helping people.
What are your views on killing?
Triage is the last resort in the medical journals. It's the final solution to ensure that the lives that can be saved are. Yeah, it sucks, but to help those who need it most, it's sometimes a decision that has to be made.
That being said, I find the thought of senseless killing to be offensive, not just on a medical level, but as a living being myself. Sure, a lot of people out there are like "I don't like it" but they just kinda shrug when they see it happen. When something needlessly dies, or worse, is needlessly killed, it means that somewhere there's a failure in the system.
Have you ever killed anyone?
Yes. Once, triage, and it was the hardest decision I ever had to make.
Why would you want to be a part of H Squared?
Mutual benefit, obviously, needs to be said. I find that I enjoy the feeling of being with a group, and am more comfortable rather then working alone. I like working with others, for the most part.
For the most part?
Had a nasty run in with SAT a year or so ago. It was during what was coined as the "Animalist Uprising". We were gathering in order to raise Anthro-Sapien awareness, and a few of us got, well, a little too rowdy, even downright violent. Seems they wanted to prove their right to have rights through violence. SAT got called in and arrested the whole lot of us. I got to spend some time in Stronghold while they sorted the entire mess out, and when everything was said and done they let me on my way.
Do you have a criminal record?
Only in the sense that it's documented at SAT that I was there, and that they let me go.
Moving on... Next question: Why would the H Squared organization hire you? List some of your strengths...
Aside from the health benefits? *laughs* Well, I'm really easy to get along with, I'm a team player, soft and cute doesn't hurt either right? In all seriousness, though, I feel that I'm a great asset to a team, since having a medical staff on hand is good for team morale, plus it helps in the event of a medical emergency to have someone *right* there. As far as my strengths, I'm a team player, I work well in the professional community, and I consider myself easy to get along with.
And some of your weaknesses?
My willingness to help and trust.
Mmmm Hmmmm, so Theresa, Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In ten years? Wow, well I plan to still be a part of the H Squared team, and hopefully my being a part of the team will help other Anthro-Sapiens aspire to join public hero organizations in those ten years.
You use the term "Anthro-Sapiens" a lot. Is this an official designation? I take it that it refers to yourself and other's like you?
Yeah, folks like me. Can't just keep calling us "Furries" or what-have-you. Just like there's "Human" and then "Metahuman", we need a way to classify, well... us. *motions to herself*. Personally, Anthro-Sapien has that nice scientific sound to it, and it pretty much says it all.
In the past, Image Inducers have been given to those members who did not have, as it were, a standard human appearance. Were such a device availible, would you want one? Would you feel you need one?
Nahhh. No need to really hide who I am or what I am. I'm not ashamed of being an Anthro-Sapien, so there's no need to hide it, and I can interact with society on a relatively normal basis. I mean, every now and then there someone going "eeek, a mouse" or someone looks at me funny for ordering the beef lo'main instead of the cheese platter or something, but nothing to warrent hiding who I am.
Opinion... You're asked to fulfill the public relations portion of the team's responsibility. Do you feel you can?
Absolutely. I have no problem speaking with people. I just hope that the people I'm talking to don't have a problem with me.
Oh?
Sometimes I think folks view us as animals. I'd like to think that I may be able to show that we're not.
